What's this?
Set in 18th-century Venice and inspired by the Ospedale della Pietà, an orphanage where a select few girls were trained by Antonio Vivaldi to become some of the greatest musicians history has left behind, The Devil's Trill is a gothic historical romance with a fantastical Faustian bargain at its heart.
Norina dreams of becoming the first violinist. On an ill-fated night, her idol, Damiano Udinese, tricks her into accepting a false bargain and disappears with her musical skills. But magic demands balance, and Norina soon discovers she can also steal from others.
Desperate to reclaim her music, they strike another bargain that takes them from the dark canals of Venice to the dazzling halls of Versailles. All the while, she tries to resist the inexorable pull she feels towards him—she cannot trust him—but as long as he possesses her music, he possesses a part of her.
Danielle majored in Literature and Creative Writing. She tried working in a bookshop but ended up spending her entire salary there on books, so she worked as a librarian instead. She is now pursuing a master's degree in Berlin. Over the two years of writing this story, she has travelled to all of the locations in The Devil's Trill, wandering Venice’s alleyways and bridges and visiting the Gardens of Versailles and Paris to conduct historical research.
