From a grieving anti-life extension professor wrestling with her own unorthodox decision to join a synthetic eternity; to a pregnant humanoid fighting for the legal right to keep her human child; to a 223 year old transhuman pastor who can’t forgive his sister for dying, each story reveals lives unfolding within systems that were meant to save us, but have instead reshaped what it means to be human.
Dances in Electric Fields is a mediation on what we lose when we transcend ourselves and what might still be found of us whether in the flicker of a heartbeat under the wires, across cyberscapes or illuminated by the glow of a dying star.
Anna K. Reeves is an interdisciplinary creator who writes at the edges of future horizons. Her anthology Dances in Electric Fields Vol.1 first conceived in 2020 grew out of a career spent slipping between worlds of theatre, tech/innovation, law, film/media & social enterprise. All lead her to co found Futureology, a speculative art and research lab interrogating where science, mythology and technology collide. Her Melbourne based installations have explored future timelines in different urban spaces from a 2042 retail store selling "mind food" (neurotech), an interactive AI powered 'Gloop' dispensary fed by human memories in 2049, to the 2099 vault preserving the last soil samples on Earth. Anna has taught her "futureneering" methodology to university students, creatives and design leaders as part of a global design leadership program. She is a curious being, diving endlessly into ancient myths, deep oceans, mountain summits, searching for anomalous artefacts and bringing speculative worlds into real life through art, consciousness and story.
