Richard III famously died at the Battle of Bosworth but this is not a history book describing the battle, the kings, nobles, treachery or plotting. It describes how one peasant manages to improve his lot and that of his family in a nearby village by hard work and by a stroke of good luck after the Battle of Bosworth.
What's this?
One result of the Battle of Bosworth was the defeat of Richard III. Another result in this work of fiction was a stroke of luck for a man who lived in a nearby village when he discovers a hoard of gold coins. However, he realises that a peasant can’t spend even one gold coin without questions being asked. Instead he finds hard work brings rewards he can actually use. The story describes how his life interacts with different village people from those at the top of the village tree to those at the bottom.
It could almost be The Archers as a story of everyday country folk, but in the fifteenth century. The hidden hoard of gold coins are a continuing feature in later books about successive generations of the same family.
Richard trained as an accountant before becoming a directory publisher, finally achieving his third career of Retirement! During the last 20 years he has lived in Florida, travelled round the world, boated in the Gulf of Mexico, trained as a spiritualist medium, supported his wife in showing their two white standard poodles at dog shows, project managed extensive extensions and refurbishments to their house, successfully sued Argos/Sainsbury on its terms and conditions, become a local politician.
