The Intricacy of Fate, is a biographical historical love story set during the politically treacherous Italian Wars of the early 1500s. Fate loomed large then and Cesare Borgia, warrior son of the pope, experiences a powerful omen directing him to abduct Dorotea Malatesta, daughter of the deceased duke of Rimini, who is traveling to join her new husband, a Venetian army captain. Cesare fears obeying will complicate his life purpose of uniting and ruling Italy’s fractious city-states, yet he complies. Dorotea, expecting a life of security, comfort and perhaps opportunity, is frightened and angry at the violation, but soon they fall deeply in love, deciding the portent was after all a gift of fate.

Susan Kiefer is a native of Kansas City, MO. Writing was an early endeavor; she received her first rejection letter from Random House as a sixth grader when she submitted a horse story written and illustrated in pencil on Big Chief tablet paper. Art has also been a great interest, and she combined the two creating artist books with her original stories and woodcut prints for illustration.
During her professional career in the marketing departments she wrote and edited stories for company newspapers annual reports. An avid reader, she has always loved history and historical fiction. This is her first novel.
