When forensic anthropologist, Marigold Merry, discovers children's skulls on Graves Island—a provincial park in Nova Scotia, Canada—the cause of death is clear.

They'd been victims of Josef Mengele-style medical experimentation, each showing signs of holes drilled through the front of their skulls prior to their death. Knowing this find has all the markings of Nazi Germany, Marigold contacts a 21st c. Nazi hunter, Pádraig Cassidy, for help.

An Indigenous man, who only goes by 'Cardinal', believes Graves Island was the site of an unreported Residential School, where doctors who'd worked at death camps during World War II, and brought to Canada and England under Operation Matchbox, continued their experimentation.

In Nazi Germany they experimented on Jews, but Cardinal believes in Canada their victims were the children held captive in residential schools. He hires Cassidy to make a grid of Graves Island, using ground penetrating radar and LiDAR, to find the unmarked graves.

Marci Lin Melvin is a recently retired Judge, who has written since she was a child. She's published nine children's books—with the proceeds going to various child-related charities—and has donated the proceeds from three traditionally published novels to the Canadian Cancer Foundation and Prostate Cancer Canada.

Her latest novel Wednesday Night Whites is an international grand prize gold winner of the 2025 Reader Views awards. The prize money from this award was also donated to a children's charity.

She is married, has three children, five grandchildren, and three perfect dogs.
