Fifty years after a solar flare killed the world, nuclear submarines rule the sea as Viking longships. Felix and Juniper were dragged aboard one as slaves and made crew. But a surprise attack cripples the Groton’s reactor, and the parts that will save her lie inland, in the kingdom of a warlord who is no longer human.

What's this?
Fifty years after a solar flare killed the world's technology, nuclear submarines rule the sea as Viking longships. They make their own water, air, and power. Everything else they take from the coast.
Felix and Juniper were dragged aboard the USS Groton as slaves and made crew. Felix, a tunnel-born water tester with no gift for violence, turns out to have a talent for tactics despite his best efforts. Juniper fights like she was built for it, and is beginning to learn what being good at killing actually costs.
Then a surprise attack cripples the Groton's reactor. The parts that will save her exist in one place: a dead Naval base miles inland, in country ruled by Sutton Vale — a warlord whose immortality has left him bloated, spore-covered, and greedy.
Hard naval detail, brutal fighting, and body horror. Book one of the Potato God Series.
Hi, I'm Mat. I've been writing for seven years, and I only recently figured out what I actually write about: something is controlling you, you can't see it, and somewhere along the line you consented.
It shows up differently in all of my books. In Nuclear Vikings, Felix and Juniper are conscripted into a violent system that gives them comfort, security, hot showers, and pizza. And all they have to do to keep these unspeakable luxuries is occasionally commit atrocities against people they've never met.
